Coil Construction - High School

After teaching pinch pot construction, I next move to Coil Construction. Once students have mastered coiling and understand they need to score and slip all the coils, they usually enjoy this construction method. Here are some samples from my students:

Pinch Pots - High School

Once I have clearly laid a foundation of book learning about clay (about 3 weeks), students are ready to start learning construction techniques for hand-building. I start teaching Pinch Pot Construction, since it is the easiest and gives students a good feel for working with clay.

Here are a few examples of pinch pots:
